Café Het Sluisje is located in the centre of the historical Nieuwerdammerdijk. Don't be a fool to take a bus to tourist trap city Zaanse Schans. No, just walk down this beautiful old street, check out the cute wooden houses, and stop at the small lock, where 110-year old café Het Sluisje is located, and drink beer without any guilt about missing out on a stupid tourist trap. This is experiencing the real history of an old Dutch village. And the best part is, you can eat as many bitterballs as you like, and drink beer as a bonus.

The interior of this café hasn't changed much over the past years. Lots of locals find their way to there. It has a very friendly atmosphere, and an ever smiling staff as well. When the sun is shining, take a seat on the terrace, with a nice view on the small harbour. They have a simple dinner menu and lots of snacks available. Also a nice stop when you're on a bike ride, discovering the beautiful surrounding Waterland area with villages such as Durgerdam, Ransdorp, Zunderdorp, etcetera.
